Pam Hilton & Martin Buchan in Funeral Games by Joe Orton. Directed by Jonathan Byrne.

Funeral Games is Joe Orton’s satirical, farcical, black comedy on the subject of Christian charity, with more than a hint of religious hypocrisy.

Pringle runs a shady sect called ‘The Brotherhood’. He suspects his wife of adultery and hires dodgy, bi-curious thug Caulfield to investigate. She has actually befriended McCorquodale, a decrepit, defrocked priest whose own wife has disappeared.

Deliciously wicked in its use of dialogue, plot and setting, the grotesque characters encounter murder, a body part – and a Dundee cake tin!

Chaos ensues…

The play is performed by Common End, a group of Leeds and Manchester-based actors which includes our own Pam Hilton & Martin Buchan and is directed by Jonathan Byrne. It’s a must for all Orton lovers.

Performing at Leeds Carriageworks 3rd- 5th Feb, Sheffield Demsey’s Bar 10th-12th Feb and Salford Arts Theatre 24th & 25th Feb.
